Developed an effective training curriculum on play therapy, communication, child development and grieving, and self-care for volunteers working with refugee children in Jordan.

Volunteer Training Workshops

Client

Helping Refugees in Jordan, a volunteer-run organization based in Jordan helping local charities and international humanitarian organizations deal with the large influx of Syrian refugees.

Background

One of the most active community-based organizations supporting refugees in Jordan wanted to establish volunteer-run children’s activity days for refugee children living among host communities.

Resource limitations meant that required volunteer qualifications included language skills, attitude, and commitment, but not experience or skills in working with refugees, playing with children, or helping children deal with separation anxiety, trauma, or death.

Solution
  • We designed an effective training curriculum on play therapy, communication, child development and grieving, and self-care.
  • Twenty volunteers attended the resulting training workshop facilitated by WeekdayRx.
  • Participants left the workshop with resourceful handouts, inspired and ready to facilitate smiles and healing among refugee children.
